Billionaire Government

Ukraine’s new President Petro Poroshenko (formerly a billionaire chocolate maker) is creating a new cabinet and placing in the ministerial positions people who

a) never held any governmental appointments before;

b) don’t belong to any political parties;

c) have created businesses worth millions or even billions.

This is a very curious experiment.

  1. I do believe President Poroshenko remains a $billionaire, Roshen has yet to be bought by a third party.

    After your eulogy of Ayn Rand I am surprised that you feel appointments should be made of politicians, all of whom previously failed the people of Ukraine.

    Under current Constitution of Ukraine the President has limitations on appointments, unlike USA where all appointments are made by the President.

    What appointees are you referring to?

      – No, I don’t think that in the least. I actually think this is a great experiment. There are so few people in Ukraine who have actually created something that this sounds like a good idea.

      The most recent appointment was the new minister of Defense. I’m not sure what his corporation makes, but I vaguely remember that it’s also something food-related. I might be mistaken.

      Ayn Rand forever! πŸ™‚

  2. Oh dear, such sweeping statements in true fantastical Ayn Rand style, all allowed to be contradicted at any time, just so long as it suits her feckless acolytes!

    You are correct to write “I might be mistaken” unless the Wikipedia entry for Valeriy Heletey is incorrect: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valeriy_Heletey

    If the entry is correct, then I am sure you will edit your post to reflect your use of imagination.
