Yes, and life in general is very cruel to brown-eyed red-heads with freckles and a love for ice-cream and opera music: they always end up dying. Everybody else, on the other hand, goes on living forever.

God, people are stupid:
Yes, and life in general is very cruel to brown-eyed red-heads with freckles and a love for ice-cream and opera music: they always end up dying. Everybody else, on the other hand, goes on living forever.
Maybe the uniqueness of academia is not being “results oriented,” but in expecting anything different. “What about all the articles I thought of writing but didn’t?” Why don’t those count? I’ve seen that attitude a lot in academia, even among colleagues excusing others their lack of publications.

Good intentions and effort are very much lauded in administrators, and nature of “results” is highly manipulable.
