          I really didn’t mean to upset you. I posted this having in mind the kind of dreams where people dream of being a rock star at 14 and still can’t let go of the fantasy at 44.

            No, no, it’s okay. I’ll live. All I ever wanted to be is a writer. I didn’t think I’d take the scholarly writing path; I thought I’d write novels. But so far, I’ve had more success with scholarship than creative writing. The only important thing is that I’m leaving something of myself behind. That’s all I’ve ever cared about. Maybe that’s silly, but it’s true.
