So Governor Rauner proposed a $400 million cut to higher education in Illinois, which constitutes about 30% of the total budget of the Illinois Board of Higher Education. One of the (many) things he proposed is eliminating $1.2 million in funding to our university’s School of Pharmacy. Because nobody needs pharmacists in Illinois today. Those suckers (and the very highly ranked school from which they graduate) are a total waste of space.
Good job shooting your kids in the foot, citizens of Illinois. Depriving them of education so that Mr. Rauner’s buddies can buy even more yachts and mansions is totally a brilliant move.
I’ve suspected for 20 years or so that evangelical groups have been orchestrating a takeover from within of the pharmacy profession. This of course is so they can go all “conscientious objector” when you drop off a prescription for emergency contraception (or any contraception, with the real extremists). Fewer pharmacy programs in public schools would of course mean a bigger % of the pharmacists being Baylor alums or something like that.
Another thing going on at state level in a lot of states is “religious freedom” legislation, especially tacked on as a poison pill rider to what is advertised as gay rights bills. I don’t know whether you’ve gotten wind of this news story from my home state.

Ah! So this is what it’s all about! I was really mystified by the singling out of pharmacists. Thank you, this totally helps.

I know for a fact that Rauner is very active in the war on women through proxies so it all makes sense now.
