Can anybody suggest any interesting conversation topics? I’ve uncharacteristically got nothing because all my energy goes to not going off on people who are eating my brain out with a little teaspoon.

Why don’t you post on the genre fiction you read for fun? IIRC, you like mysteries? Your favorites, least favorites, genres and subgenre you’d never read, genres and subgenres you didn’t think you’d enjoy but do, favorite authors and why you think you like their work, genre work of surprisingly high literary quality, etc. Basically, a little celebration of reading for pleasure in blog-post form.

Reading about Bauman and other thinkers was the most beloved topic of your blog, but it had sadly disappeared.
And would love to read new materials you discover while working on the new political course.

Not disappeared but imo became less prominent compared to the past.
Love reading about books you read for fun too, but not mystery novels since don’t read this genre. General good novels, would love to hear about.

It’s also “Iran launches missiles at central Israel … Air raid sirens sound” brain.
Yesterday the entire day was uncharacteristically quiet, so I risked taking Maya far away from the house, as we went shopping for food with my mother. Before that since 28.3.26 I only went with her 2-3 minute walking distance away from our building.
We did have 2 sirens at around 21 in the evening, and one more warning at 5:30 this morning.
Recently we had a day with more than 7 sirens.
Each time we need to descend into an underground shelter in our building since old buildings don’t have a safe room in each flat. 😦 At least, it’s only one floor down till the ground floor, but the shelter itself has many stairs.

OT: have you heard of this new movie that received Oscar?
Mr Nobody Against Putin is a 2025 documentary film directed by David Borenstein and Pavel Talankin. It follows Talankin in his job at a school in Karabash, a poor mining town near the Ural Mountains. While recording his students, Talankin also documents the Putin administration’s moves to control public perception during the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war.
I haven’t watched the movie itself yet, but the trailer alone impressed me and imo is sufficient to show Western audiences what Putin’s Russia is like.

I, personally, am not interested in any movie that follows the narrative about poor little russians and mean mr putin. I don’t know if this movie follows that but I don’t want to risk it.
I _loathe_ those that try to say that putin is the problem and russians are his victims. I detest “the russian people” far more than I do putin. No one expects a rule of russia to be anything but a raving psychopath. But it’s the overwhelming majority of ordinarly russian people who cause that through their malignant apathy and moral cowardice.

Exactly. This is 2026. Any narrative of “poor sainted Russians victimized by evil Putin” is completely dishonest. We’ve seen hours of footage of Russian wives encouraging their husbands to rape Ukrainian women. We’ve seen Russian mothers callously sending one son after another to die for a payout. We’ve seen teenagers at a dance club cheering war and genocide. And still the narrative of “bad tsar” is getting awarded at the Oscars? I can’t even.
