What are they bidding for, exactly? What does Greece have to offer?

Historically speaking, Russia has always wanted to have a good warm water port via Black Sea, but that requires control of the Dardanelles (or at least allies with control). And every good empire wants control of the Mediterranean Sea (the Brits, the Romans, the Ottomans, Pax Americana etc.).
Greece is just one-half of that equation for them.

All true. However, Russians would still fight to attract Greece even if it could bring no direct benefit to them. Right now, for instance, they are trying to lure leaders of small African countries to the WWII victory celebration in Moscow.

It’s back to the Cold War stuff. Every new ally, no matter how weak and useless, confirms that one of the sides is better and more attractive.
