Hedgehogs

I found several hedgehog farms in our state but N is against buying a pet hedgehog. He says he’ll feel horrible putting the creature in a cage.

      1. “They’re being domesticated and while the process isn’t complete they are starting to show trains of domesticated animals (like increased variety in coloration that would get them killed in the wild) and not hibernating.”

        • As I said, totally like N. 🙂

  1. Hedgehogs are extremely high maintenance pets! They are not friendly either (they will puff out their quills and hiss at you!), unless you devote massive amounts of attention every day to socialize them. They are cute, but best admired from afar.

      • They are totally just like my husband!!! I knew there is a reason I like them. 🙂

  2. In my childhood I had a pet hedgehog for one day. It was put in a box, but next day released to the wild again. Btw, during that one day it defecated into this box of carton and feces had to be cleaned. The reality of having a pet is sometimes much more prosaic than fantasy. 🙂

  3. Have you seen the youtube videos of hedgehogs trying to eat carrots? It’s the cutest thing ever! They look so damn happy every time they take bite!

  4. Those hedgehogs do look so cute, but I don’t think they are suitable pets, they aren’t native to any part of America. They would need special care – how do you groom or cuddle a hedgehog? And they are wild animals.
If you want a pet just as cute (well I think so), I can thoroughly recommend Guinea pigs (caveys). They’ve been bred in captivity for thousands of years and are very tame, friendly, cuddly and talkative. They are easy to feed – almost any fruit and vegetable that you will eat they will too – probably with the exception of chillis! They are pretty clean, their pooh is in the form of neat little pellets. In warmer weather they will mow part of your lawn for you if given half a chance and they just love dandelions.
I won’t send you a link, just google them and you’ll get hundreds of very cute images!

    1. Love cannot be explained, and of all the animals on the planet the only ones I do not detest are hedgehogs and elephants. And I’m definitely not getting an elephant. 🙂

      1. I understand! I too love elephants, but restrict myself to gathering wooden ones. I have eight.
