So we’ve started watching Damages and I’m already disappointed. Famous lawyers are running around bars and weddings begging some two-bit dime-a-dozen job candidate to come work for them?
Unless we discover very soon that she is about to inherit an enormous fortune or something I will not be able to process this premise.
Also, a guy who proposes the day after his girlfriend gets a job with an enormous salary and doesn’t get the ring stuffed up his anal cavity?
Is this supposed to be fantasy genre?
This is indeed a totally normal reaction. Plenty of ludicrous things happen in this show (it’s about lawyers, what do you expect?) but this is not one of them.

It is entertainment! It is some some sort of fantasy genre! What you describe is part of the fun.
But yes: that wedding proposal makes a poor scene. And the viewer never sees the chemistry in the couple.

I don’t think it’s such a bad scene. Rose Byrne plays a very stupid and gullible character. I mean, what kind of person would think it’s normal for a perspective employee to show up at a personal event like that? And to offer her a job based on what, her gumption? It’s supposed to be a weird and uncomfortable interaction.
But I agree that this show is just meant to be entertaining. It’s not an exceptionally well-crafted drama or anything. It’s just fun 🙂

It seems like the boyfriend will be killed. That reconciles me with the show for the moment.

Watch “Borgen”. Danish from MHz Network (dist.), 3 seasons. The rise and rise of the first woman as Denmark’s PM. Or “The Bridge” Danish and/or US. A “who’s body” mystery. The lead detective has Asperger’s Syndrome. (I thought the Danes got the syndrome better than the US.) I thought “Damages” was pretty well done. But it’s an American production which assumes a peculiar American desire for glam or action or … Once you get “into” Damages start thinking about “Suits”. You’ll remember the “simplicity” of Damages. BUT they are watchable. Just a suggestion.
