See this is the difficult part of the world we live in. Obviously totally disgusting, but i bet at least 90% and probably 99% of cops would NEVER share / post this, and yet because one group did, all 900,000 cops in the US will be depicted / tarnished.
That is the inherent difficulty over the internet age we live in. The only answer is continual enlightened debate and proper explanation of facts / perspective. But that is tough when we humans have limbic systems with emotions that often overpower our more reasoned mental facilities.

I am not sure i am understanding right. Just to be clear you think 95% of cops would support posting something such as this? If so, that is fine and we just have a vastly different perspective / judgement, but was curious if you really feel that way. Unfortunate if that is the case that we could be so divided on that point 😦

For me, this is not about cops at all. I actually have a huge soft spot for cops and military people. Nobody has to share this feeling, it’s just my thing.
For me, this is about nasty vicious racists. And they don’t have to be cops at all.

Right, but isnt the problem that we are making a big deal out of this action of one person / group? I get there are more than 1 person / group that would say this, but this is a vastly minority held opinion.
its like the KKK.. they used to have 1 million + members. they have 5,000 now i think? That is a great amazing progress. As a society if we let 5,000 tarnish everyone we can’t have a modern society.
Certainly there are mor than 5,000 racists in this country, but with a 99.995% decrease in official racism from support of an openly racist group i just think its highly distortive to find the examples and exagerate them. Not questioning motives, i just feel we have to stop / challenge potentially distorted narratives. I am curious though because i know you are an intellectual if you just completely disagree with my perception of the numbers.. or what other angle?

I don’t have any numbers on the issue. I report what I see, both good and bad, as we can see, for instance, from the post that Jeff linked.
It’s interesting that when I posted the image and the link, it didn’t even register with me that there were any cops involved in the story. 🙂 Even my reading is selective.

I agree that this is not only about cops. Still, the fact that any members of any official organization supported this deeply offensive, racist, and cruel image is hugely problematic. This isn’t just a bunch of random loonies: they are armed members of a government- funded body that promise to protect society. And, as a side note, this image should only invoke our disgust and perhaps a promise to do better by our fellow Black Americans– not inspire some bizarre apologia celebrating declining numbers in the KKK.
