Folks, have you seen this hilarious blowup between two pissy and ignorant kids at Oberlin? I promise you, it’s the best. One of them goes into fits of rage because another one uses a Spanish word. The kids are so stupid that they confuse “your” and “you are” and say things like “for all intensive purposes.” They obviously have no time to do their homework but dedicate tons of time to stupid, self-righteous anger.

This doesn’t sound like teenage angst but rather elementary school (8th grade at most – 13 year olds).
I think that a generation of helicopter parents has developmentally stunted the great majority of millenials so their social development is between 6 and 10 or so years behind their chronological age.

I’m not going to blame helicopter parents of millennials (although the coptering doesn’t help). There are hordes of developmentally and emotionally stunted people who are well into their dotage. Why else does Hollywood keep making high school and college movies instead of movies about mature adults with mature attitudes? Why is political life in the US governed by some tantrum or the other? You can’t seriously blame this on wet-behind-the-ears 90’s babies. Yet. 🙂

I keep saying that white people need to stop speaking Spanish, but for some reason nobody in Spain (except the Basques and Catalonians) agrees with me.
Maybe if we sent some Oberlin grads to explain this to them we could get the matter cleared up.

Personally I loathe the word fútbol as ugly and un-Spanish sounding. I’ve always greatly preferred ‘balompié’ but Spanish speakers mostly don’t seem to agree with me….

Whenever I hear a person seriously speak about cultural appropriation, I know I’m dealing with a congenital idiot.

Just imagine all the Lena Dunhams (Oberlin alum) you missed out on!I grew up in a much more innocent time, where I was more concerned about getting laid and my classes. I didn’t become righteously indignant until the new millenium dawned. Sure I participated in Model UN, did most of my history classes in Latin American history and stumbled upon Richard Delgado by accident, but I was a sweet, sweet summer child ignorant of the offensiveness lurking in a vast atmosphere of microaggressions. Helas! :p

Why do stories like this always seem to come out of Oberlin and other very small, very expensive colleges? I teach at a large public university and I just can’t imagine any of my students doing this or most of the other things that millennials supposedly do. Are small schools just hot-house environments that make people crazy or do those types of schools attract that type of student for some reason.

I think the reason is that rich people’s kids have too much time and energy. My students wouldn’t do this kind of thing either because they all work and often more than one job. Nobody has any energy for this dumbassery.

That might be it. A large percentage of our students work and are very busy. The ones who are from well-off families are mostly here to party, so they also wouldn’t do this stuff.
