I can’t wait to see what narrative all the creeps who were defending Putin’s invasion of Ukraine will come up with to explain his invasion of Syria. How will they reconcile their belief in Putin’s role as somebody who is an alternative to the “evil West” with his cheerful eagerness to exploit the conflict in the Middle East?
Poor fuckers, I almost feel bad for them.
Wait no longer since Putin will always supply all necessary narratives. Today on ORT he announced that, unlike some (unnamed) countries, Russia doesn’t destroy other countries’ regimes leading to ISIS and thus to refugees. That, without Russia’s help, the number of refugees would’ve been higher. Also, the refugees are because of ISIS, not Assad.

Now let’s see if the Western pro-Putin simpletons will swallow this story. They are used to swallowing Putin’s excretions, but this one might be too huge for them.

I don’t think you’ll have to wait long.

I’m no fan of Putin, but if the internationally recognized government of Syria (Assad’s regime) has given permission to Russia to bring in military forces, it’s not an invasion any more than the US moving troops into a NATO country with that country’s permission.
Assad obviously welcomes Russian support, because the Russian forces will fight to keep his regime in power. The Russian naval facility at the port of Tartus is Russia’s only warm-water port, and Putin definitely doesn’t want to lose that.
Is Putin up to no good? Of course. Should the US counter his move back into the Middle East? Of course (but we won’t, not with Obama in office.) But unlike in the Ukraine, Putin isn’t violating international law in this case.

The power void left unfilled by the USA and our weak leader (this is being VERY kind) makes this type of action expected. Obviously Europe could have stepped up too, but ultimately the US has to be the world’s policeman for a relatively sane / safe world, and alas we are not doing it. Going into Iraq wasn’t the huge fuckup, the problem was in not winning. But after the surge we could have made an ally out of Iraq, and also at this point Syria could be in friendly US territory after the arab spring and syria’s uprising. Neither happened and the world, including the middle east directly, and the EU and United States indirectly will suffer for at least two decades probably as a result.

You are SO right about that! That statement also precisely sums up the Vietnam War and its aftermath.
And yet, the American left is full of contemptible idiots like the writers at “The Nation,” “Slate,” and similar publications who literally rejoice at the withdrawal of American “interference” from global affairs.

Putin will speak at the UN General Assembly, once again schooling Americans in a didactic tone, berating Obama, and we will all eat it up like wayward toddlers.
The shame, the humiliation! The leader of a sad, backwards banana republic lords it over a country whose metaphoric boots he is not fit to clean. Am I the only person who feels the disgrace of it? This street thug, this little piece of trash will condescendingly lecture the representatives of a culture that is in every way superior to his. Why is nobody appalled?

The most important question is whether Obama will buy Putin’s new narrative. We will see the answer within the next couple of days. It’s very much up in the air at this point whether Obama will choose to be bamboozled by Putin yet again.

Obama will do nothing but have Jerry say some harsh words. That’s the way it’s going to be, until at least 2016.

“Jerry”?? Obviously, I meant to type “Kerry.”
It will be interesting, but otherwise unhelpful, to see if Hillary condemns Putin in stronger language than our state department. You can be sure that she won’t directly criticize Obama for his abject weakness in this situation.

I don’t understand why the representatives of all the decent countries can’t get up and leave when this ugly midget begins to speak. Let him blather on to his diminishing pool of third-world buddies.
