A Hero Needed!

People, does anybody know how to insert images into comments on this blog?

The reader who has an answer will be declared the blog’s Hero of the Month.

  1. AFAIK this does not work because images could be abused too much. IF there is a way, you’ll probably need to add a certain plugin to WordPress and then every image link will be automatically displayed as an image. It should work with youtube videos or tweets though, provided you activated it.

Or do you mean your comments on your blog? Because that should work pretty much the same way you do for posts.

  2. I follow these steps:
    1) Upload picture (or its URL from whatever site) to imgur. This works better because then you don’t have to worry about hotlinking (stealing bandwidth from some other site).
    2) WordPress has a plugin for imgur already, so all you need to do is paste the imgur link in the comments and it’ll display the picture. Use the ‘Direct link’ link. And simply copy&paste. No need to add any html.

I’d like to thank our cats for their hard work in contributing to this tutorial.

      1. Of course, expecting that I’d manage to make it work would be too much.

But I totally love that hedgehog! !!!

It’s a mystery why I hate all animals but hedgehogs and turtles.

  3. The steps given in the above posts describe how to link images from URLs (website locations). That’s helpful information, but it requires uploading images to an intermediate website before adding them to your comments on Clarissa’s website.

Does anyone know how to simply move/copy/add image files directly from your hard drive to a WordPress comment?

“Drag and drop” or “Copy and paste” methods don’t work, at least if your browser is Google Chrome or Internet Explorer.

(Great hedgehog pic, by the way.)

    1. I used imgur to post a picture from my hard drive into a comment above. It takes seconds to upload it into imgur. I was afraid it would be painful but it was easy.

      1. Some of your readers (okay, one — me) are a bit paranoid about having their pictures permanently accessible on a popular website like Imgur.

And once uploaded, the image is there forever, unless you take several complex steps to delete it.

        1. I can understand that. Let’s see if there’s another method.

I’m getting extremely curious over what it is that you want to post. That photo will now have to live up to huge expectations of people from around the world. 🙂

          1. When you upload a picture to imgur, that page also gives you a link to delete the image. Save this link and whenever you want to stop displaying the image, you can just enter the link address in your browser and imgur will delete that image.

It’s the ‘Get Deletion Link’ on your right.

You realize that you’ve just made it IMPOSSIBLE for me to ever post that image, because it couldn’t possibly meet such great anticipation! 🙂 🙂

            1. Hey, you’ve got to post it or at least send it to me by email because I will die of curiosity and deprive the world of my daily blogging. That will not make all these readers happy with you. 🙂

              1. Okay, you can’t say I didn’t warn you.

When you posted this beautiful “inner feelings” image from the Burning Man Festival,

it immediately brought back childhood memories of this moving “inner feelings” image from a children’s comic book I read when I was 8 years old.

Horror comic books were deemed unfit for children and banned from the U.S. market in 1955.

So now the world won’t be deprived of your blogging. 🙂

    1. If you use Photobucket, you can directly post the image in two ways:
      1) Right click the image, select “copy image URL” and paste it into the comment.
      2) Click the “link codes icon” and then click on the direct link code and paste into your comment:

  4. This is a TEST to see if images posted in comments via Imgur will remain visible in the comments after they’re subsequently deleted from Imgur.

Here’s the image (turtle on a fence post):

I’m going to post this comment, make sure the image is visible on Clarissa’s comments page, then delete the original from my Imgur album. I’ll bet it disappears from my comment.

    1. Damn!!! The image has stayed in the comment, even though it was placed as a URL link to an Imgur image, and I just permanently deleted that image from the Imgur album.

This is great news! It means that paranoid people like me can post images here without leaving them vulnerable to discovery on the Imgur (or any other photo-storage) website.

  5. It has stayed in your computer because the image is in your browser cache, I’m guessing. The image vanished from my computer.

  6. Photobucket won’t let me register after multiple attempts including rebooting my computer (it doesn’t like my browser or operating system or whatever), so I can’t test that. But since Photobucket pastes images via URL or direct link code to its website albums, the result would probably be he same as with Imgur, anyway.

I found an old WordPress discussion post on Google that says WordPress won’t allow actual image files (as opposed to links) in reader comments because a large image file could tie up all the involved’s site bandwidth. That’s probably correct, can’t be done.

If I get an overwhelming urge to post an image here in the future, I’ll take my chances with my Imgur account. (The image in this post is via Imgur.)
