Disaffection

People who are wondering whether the GOP’s incapacity to choose a speaker will have an impact on the presidential elections need to get out more.

If the exact same events back in the 1990s had no such effect, today they are even less likely to have one. Voters have grown even more disaffected with the political process. The only people who follow these events are egg heads like you and me. Nobody else notices or cares.

  1. Yeah, I remember the total PANIC among some of my liberal friends back in 1994 when Newt Gingrich passed the “Contract with America.”

Some of them sounded literally scared to death, saying things like, “I’ve never been more frightened of the political situation in America in my life!” and similar hysterical cries that the dreaded Conservative Doomsday had arrived. It all blew over, of course, and Clinton was reelected two years later.

We’ll get a (relatively) sane President of whichever party next year, and whoever wins (It won’t be Trump or Sanders), the world will keep right on turning…
