So it sounds like Putin is now considering invading Afghanistan. And still the facile fools who stick to the “why should it be our problem?” narrative will refuse to see any connection between Russia’s invasions of Ukraine, Syria and Afghanistan and will judge Putin’s actions not on his terms but on their own.
Russia has already done the Afghan game once and it cost them. Why on earth would they volunteer to do it again??

Putin has a goal that he is pursuing single-mindedly. He wants the US to talk to him as an equal and subdivide the world into spheres of influence. He said this time and again, and he will not rest until it happens.

And what about China?

Putin tried playing the BRIC card for a while but his one true love and obsession is always the US. He just can’t let it go.

Yes, but Xi Jinping doesn’t want to be treated as an afterthought and he has a much larger army. In fact, given the Chinese are already dealing with an Islamic insurgency in their western provinces, I wouldn’t be surprised to see them forming an alliance with the Afghan government.

Absolutely! This dismissive way of treating the Chinese had already created tensions between China and Russia. But Putin seems to labor under the illusion that he can manipulate the Chinese.
To which I say, keep dreaming, Mr Putin.
