The Ukrainian city of Odessa now has the world’s first Darth Vader statue:
Not that the people of Odessa are such huge fans of Darth Vader, but the city wanted to get rid of its Lenin statue and a local sculptor suggested giving old grandpa Lenin a Darth Vader remake.
This is what the Lenin statue looked like before it was Darth Vaderized:
Odessa was always known for its goofy sense of humor.

Odessa was always a very cosmopolitan city with large German, Jewish, and Greek communities up until WWII in addition to Ukrainians and Russians.

I went there once and found the people to be even more rude and vulgar than in the rest of the country, and that’s saying a lot.

Yes, but I am sure you went there after World War II when it was not nearly so cosmopolitan. 8-).

I know she isn’t Urkanian, but why not Catherine II or maybe Nikolai Berdyaev ?
What’s needed is an anti-Lenin.

Catherine II destroyed the last vestiges of Ukrainian self-government and Berdyaev was a Russian nationalist and xenophobe. Both are pretty much the worst choices for Ukraine. 🙂

Actually the place to have a statue to have a statue of Catherine II is Engles in Saratov since she is the person responsible for the creation of the Volga German people.

There’s still a statue of Lenin in Seattle’s “People’s Republic of Fremont” neighbourhood — perhaps the local denizens may have the inner strength to turn it to the Dark Side as well.
But actually, I’d be more amused if a sculptor turned the Lenin statue into a Princess Leia commemorative … 🙂
