Yes, obviously. The cop has already been suspended without pay, has been publicly condemned by the local sheriff, and will almost certainly be fired and face other penalties.
The incident is disgusting, but where’s the controversy here?

The argument I’m hearing is that nothing would have happened to the cop if that video hadn’t come out. And I’m inclined to agree.

Well, you won’t get any argument from me about idiotic public school policies for the last decade or so.
The vast majority of school authorities — the school boards, the principals, and the teachers — are actually in FAVOR of a mindless “zero tolerance” policy (e.g., a child accidentally drives to school with a hunting knife lying on the flatbed of his father’s pickup truck, it’s automatic expulsion), because it means that they DON’T HAVE TO ACT LIKE ADULTS and take responsibility for making any decisions that, God forbid, somebody might complain about!
When the authority figures are cowards who never grew up and are afraid to handle the adult responsibilities that they’re getting paid for, what do you expect?
