And here is already some airhead fucker arguing that the acts of terror in France mean the US should form an alliance with Russia to fight ISIS.

Well, at least the idiot in your link is only suggesting that we partner with Putin against Isis and Assad. On the Sunday talk shows this morning, some former CIA official actually recommended that we partner with BOTH PUTIN AND ASSAD in the fight. I nearly fell out of my chair.
The comparison to the Western alliance with Stalin in WWII, where the Red army took on three-fourths of the Wehrmacht and did almost all of the actual ground fighting, is beyond ludicrous.
What should happen (my humble opinion) is that France should evoke Article 5 of the NATO chapter (“An attack on any NATO member is considered an act of war against all members”). This would compel the U.S. and other NATO nations to go to war against ISIS with the force necessary to wipe them out — but I don’t think France is ready to do that yet. (Evoking Article 5 is optional for the attacked country; it’s only been done once — by the U.S. after 9/11).
The next few days/weeks will be quite interesting.

At least, France is now actually bombing Daesh, and quite actively, too. I was afraid they’d just sit it out limply, as they tend to do.

Remember how the Jordanians bombed ISIS for a few days right after the Jordanian pilot was burned alive — but ultimately that was all Jordan did.
If all the French do now is a short bombing campaign, then the only result will be symbolic but ultimately meaningless vengeance.

Apparently the White House is already announcing that there won’t be any major change in U.S. policy toward ISIS. Disgusting!

The Russian media are going nuts over how long Obama held Putin’s hand when they met today. They timed it, and every extra second of the handshake is savored on every TV channel.
And the terrorists in the East of Ukraine immediately reacted to the encouragement by escalating violence.

Surely Daesh has noticed that France has nuclear weapons. I don’t know how large their arsenal is, but it is enough to make Daesh uncomfortable.

Do you think there is a chance France would use them?

The U. S. and Russia could not, probably. France is more likely to. How likely, I don’t know.

Why would ISIS care about France’s nuclear weapons? It is not like France would use them against Syria. Not even if ISIS brought some bad quality dirty bombs to France themselves, I suppose.

I believe it will be mighty unusual if the French manage to sustain their current bombing campaign for more than a couple of days, let alone escalate. Theirs is a culture of appeasement of everybody on the planet.

I don’t totally agree with the plan, but I am sure something like such is being considered in the US. Would be bad for Ukraine I fear though.

I hope this is just a fantasy of this silly fellow. Otherwise, this country will look even more pathetic than it already does with its wimpy foreign policy.
We need to elect Hillary as soon as possible. Everybody else is too much of a wuss to stand up to Putin.

I believe this fellow is rather liberal (i think) who wrote this. I think Cruz, Rubio and Trump will definitely be tougher than Hillary. The only one I really like is Rubio ( i know we disagree on him), but Hillary had a chance to come out STRONG saturday andplayed it more mild because she knows thats what the primary voters in the democratic party wanted. And lets also not forget a good deal of al quaeda’s rise was because bill was weak, didn’t attack them even after embassy bombings and massively cut troop levels, military build out of weaponry, and spending levels. She is not him, but they have a similar philosophy from everything i know. But I agree this much, if bernie took over I would be very scared for our safety.

Addressing both houses of parliament on Monday, French President Francois Hollande announced
…
Hollande said the United States and Russia needed to set aside their policy divisions over Syria and “fight this terrorist army in a single coalition.” He said he hoped to meet soon with US President Barack Obama and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, though he didn’t specify whether they would all meet together.
The president also announced an increase in police recruitment, a halt to layoffs in the army, and a constitutional amendment to strengthen the fight against terrorism.
Hollande said he wanted French law to allow dual nationals to be stripped of their French citizenship if they were convicted of terrorism and dual nationals to be banned from entering France if they presented a “terrorism risk”.

What I noticed:
\ France was at war against cowards, said Hollande, and not in a clash of civilizations.
The need to call terrorists cowards is probably good for morale, but I don’t see any connection to reality. Were terrorists cowards, they would have stayed in front of TV at home in France and Belgium.
\ The French leader said he would present a bill Wednesday seeking to extend the prevailing state of emergency – granting the police and military greater powers of search and arrest, and local governments the right to suspend demonstrations and impose curfews – for another three months.
When people choose / vote against following ISIS returnees, they are voting for more people getting killed in the future AND for future larger restrictions on personal freedoms for everybody.
I was absolutely shocked by what you told me regarding not following ISIS members in Britain. If people don’t wake up soon, huge terrorist acts will lead to stronger backlash. Btw, what is Britain doing with other criminals like paedophiles and serial killers, are they ignored after being released from jail too till another crime comes to light?
