More Russian Mayhem

And now anti-Assad rebels hit a Russian helicopter. The Russian media are reporting this as, “US allies bring down a Russian helicopter.”

All of this started happening after Putin was welcomed and encouraged by the so-called Western leaders at the G20. It will take just a little bit more encouragement for Putin to start making really bad trouble in the Middle East.

  1. Well, what did Putin (and his useful idiots in the West) expect? That they could just saunter into the maelstrom in Syria and not be unscathed? These things were going to happen, despite idiots like Ray McGovern claiming that Russia’s intervention on the side of Assad was going to bring “hope”.

Then again, I’m sure Putin’s useful idiots will find some way to blame all of this on the US.

  2. Well Turkey (erdogan) is de fact on the side of ISIS and Putin is on the side of the some non-ISIS anti-Assad forces (that is he’s pro Assad).

What a shitstorm the useless neocon policy of destablilizin gcountries is turning into. I don’t think they’ve been right about a single thing ever, but somehow they still have influence.

    1. I’ve seen no evidence that Putin is not on the side of ISIS. ISIS has been and is being extremely useful to him both domestically and internationally. It’s the biggest gift he’s gotten in years.

      1. What gets me are the comments excoriating Turkey for being ruthless and militaristic and how President Erdogan is a dictator….while basically ignoring just how similar Putin is.

          • I know! Even the NATO is not very supportive of Turkey, suggesting that Erdogan overreacted. I’m no fan of Erdogan, obviously, but this is far from being the first violation of Turkey’s air space by Russia.

  3. “Today’s loss is linked with a stab in our back delivered by terrorism accomplices,” Putin said, according to Russia’s TASS news agency, adding that the aircraft was targeting ISIL. “I can’t characterize otherwise what has happened today.”

So who are “terrorism accomplices? Turkey? NATO? America?

Upshot of the NATO meeting in Brussels today:

Diplomats present at the meeting told Reuters that while none of the 28 Nato envoys defended Russia’s actions, many expressed concern that Turkey did not escort the Russian warplane out of its airspace. “There are other ways of dealing with these kinds of incidents,” said one diplomat who declined to be named.

I don’t think that Hollande is going to get his grand coalition right now.

  4. Hollande and Obama had their big meeting today and agreed to work together to “destroy” ISIS — but neither the U.S. nor France has any plans to put combat boots on the ground.

Which of course means that ISIS is going to be allowed to continue its reign of terror at least until the U.S. gets a new President, or another major terrorist attack in an “important” country (Western Europe or the U.S) forces Obama’s hand.

    Disgusting!!! 😦

But at least Putin is in a panic right now. Somebody finally called his hand, and he’s got to figure out how to deal with this new situation.

      1. Pundits are saying that the real reason Erdogan shot the Russian plane down was become it was preparing to attack anti-Syrian rebels under Turkish protection along the border — the fact that the plane crossed into Turkish airspace for about 30 seconds just gave Erdogan legal cover to fire.

Erdogan has repeatedly warned Russia that it won’t permit attacks on those friendly pro-Turkish rebels. Apparently he really meant it.

        1. Whatever the reason, I’m glad Erdogan carried through. These “very serious warnings” that Putin kept getting from the NATO as he was annexing the Crimea and invading Ukraine that never came to anything have made him feel invincible. He needs to be brought back to reality.
