Converting

convert

Does this mean they are still trying to convert everybody else?? Because that history has been just as sucky. If anybody should forget the word “convert” and pretend it never existed it’s Catholics.

  1. Unlike Judaism and Islam, which are mainly tribal religions (into which members are born), mainstream Christianity is a religion based on acceptance of a certain faith (divinity of Christ), and anyone is welcome to “convert” regardless of who his/her mother was.

The Catholic Church, for good or ill, followed colonialist conquerors all over the world for centuries and busily converted millions of people. Mother Teresa repeatedly stated that her real goal was not to help poor people physically, but to get them to except Christ.

When I was stationed in Saudi Arabia, the Saudi government was always on the lookout for any forbidden Christian services in the private residences of Western workers, because the Saudis feared that their real goal was conversion of local Muslims. If even a small service was discovered, the involved Westerners were expelled from the country in about 24 hours.

      • Believe me, I’m well aware. πŸ™‚ When Protestant denominations proselytize, good for them. But Catholics have messed up too many times.
