Smart Gift

The campus is filled with herds of young deer this time of year.

One of the gifts N gave me for New Year’s is a new wallet. It’s beautiful, red but I just noticed that credit cards slide out of it very, very reluctantly. To the point where it might be easier not to buy anything at all.

  1. Buy some RFID shield sleeves for your credit cards — once they’re reissued as contactless cards (or NFCs, or RFIDs), you’ll need them anyway.

The American Secret Squirrels suggest these:

There are other companies that sell these — the technology isn’t exactly difficult to understand if you have a rudimentary understanding of electromagnetism.

You may also find these “tin foil hats” for your cards in travel shops — look for “RFID card shields” or “RFID blockers”. You’ll get additional protection for any RFIDs in your cards as well as something to keep the cards from sliding out of your new wallet.

This should make your smart gift smarter. 🙂

[… and while you’re at it, buy some for your passports …]

  2. Maybe that just means you need to use the wallet plenty, so that the card slots loosen up a little, like wearing in a new pair of shoes?? Take the wallet to a nice real book store, and give it a workout! 🙂
