It takes a mighty act of cognitive dissonance to imagine yourself as a great power while constantly engaging in petty, trollish behavior.

Yeah. . . Especially on the part of people who exterminated the indigenous peoples of Siberia.

In some sense it is valid… Just not from Russia. Mentioning people of Siberia in this context is valid, but fairly standard. I go immediately for the throat, suggesting that before claiming moral superiority, the Russians should return (the land under) Saint-Petersburg to the Karelians and the Izhorians. Remember those discussions? 🙂
Speaking of trolling – they perceive the Holodomor or Katyn memorials located in the US as equally trolling Russia… The actions of Putinists should be understood within their paradigm, not the Western one – and in this paradigm Russia and the US are equal, and behave as equals. The difference is meaning and motives of those erecting the respective monuments escapes them…
By the way, for complete trolling experience, they also should rename the street on which the embassy is located in honor of Leonard Peltier…

Yes, it’s their favorite “But if Americans can, why can’t we?” Never seems to get old. Of course, this incapacity to function outside of an endless competition with somebody who barely knows you exist is in itself a sign of being hopelessly secondary.

Is this memorial being planned by the Russians or by the Americans. I cannot tell from the text of your post.

Russians, of course. This is their way to tell the Americans “You do not have any moral superiority over us”. And a “symmetric measured response” to two “russophobic” monuments I mentioned above.

The Russians, of course. It’s yet another way to stick it to the hated Americans, in their view.
