Yesterday’s Debate

Trump won. Which is good because we want him to get the nomination.

Cruz had prepared some good material and delivered it almost convincingly but Trump responded to everything with great ease. Good improv always triumphs over the capacity to recite the lines somebody else wrote for you.

Gosh, and here we all thought it was going to be a boring election. I’m awed and amazed to see an actual democratic system at work. This is very beautiful, people.

  1. Trump and Cruz are looking to be the only contenders at this point.

Mike Bloomberg recently conducted an internal poll about running third party if Trump gets the nomination. They won’t reveal the results of course.

Would be interesting if this happens. He could potentially split both the republican and democratic voters.

Trump comments heard on the web – “We shall overcomb”, “Cats for Trump: The time is Me’ow” and “Yes We Comb!”

    And the latest Hilary critique:

“Here’s a thought: Let’s stop talking about Hillary Clinton’s pantsuits.

A headline in Slate on Friday morning proclaimed that Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton “dresses like a lesbian.””

  3. Too late, Clarissa — “The Nation” has officially endorsed Bernie, so he’s in the bag for the nomination. Rubio (or even your favorite lizard Cruz) will beat him like a drum in November!

I hope that “The Nation” can survive long enough for Bernie to bail them out, since that publication is hurting financially. Did you know that you’re now required to purchase a subscription if you want to read more than six articles on their website in a 30-day period? (Too bad, their articles were always highly amusing.)

    1. Yes, Trump will easily beat Bernie. I don’t even want to imagine the drumming Bernie would get. 😦

Rubio’s done for. The only alternative to Trump seems to be Cruz.

      1. It’s still early at this point of course but almost every poll—even conservative polls– predict that Sanders would beat Trump in a head to head national election.

Based on what I have seen, that rings true. I actually don’t think Trump can beat anyone in a national election. I don’t even think he can really get the Republican nomination: the large amount of candidates and his name recognition is propelling Trump artificially forward at this point. I think he will disappear once the field narrows.

I think Sanders would struggle against Cruz and probably be decimated by the much younger Rubio. But I think he could take Trump in a heartbeat.

        1. Ah , Evelina, I think — I hope fervently — that my party won’t be delusional enough to nominate an unscrupulous demagogue like Donald Trump. But if it does, and the Democrats run a 73-year-old Jewish socialist ilke Sanders, all bets are off.

I hope that Hillary gets the Demo nomination. I can’t stand her, but she’s at least a sane politician capable of representing the other side. Rubio is my prefered Republican candidate, but I can probably hold my nose and vote for Cruz. If any one of those three wins, life as we know it will more or less go on.

If either Trump or Sanders wins — the political future is a horror story waiting to be written.

          1. Trump has years of priceless TV experience and is extremely good at playing to the cameras. And Bernie just comes off as irritated and grumpy. He can’t give a good show, and that’s what people want.

Any candidates nominated will be a referendum on the past, real or imagined. I thought this was something which would be avoided if neither a Bush nor a Clinton wins the nomination, but I see now everyone is selecting their favorite fantasy and their version of the past.
Nobody is future oriented, let alone present oriented.

Vote for Cruz! I’m voting for Cruz, says an old retired army doctor with a chip bag clipit on his nose, and Vicks Vapo Rub above his upper lip. :p
Hold your nose for Hillary! -some bumpersticker.

Please! I was a flight surgeon on flying status in the U.S. Air Force — big difference from being a ground doc in the U.S. Army.

Considering that both Cruz and Hillary have equally repellant personalities, it will be interesting to see who wins if they end up facing off against each other.
