And one more thing re: the previous post. It is super easy to stand up for people you like and find agreeable. But it’s kind of worthless. Whether one is truly principled becomes clear when one either does or doesn’t defend from bullying people who are unpleasant or downright obnoxious.
People who find online harassment of Anita Sarkeesian to be more disturbing than online harassment of Sarah Palin are not feminists. They simply believe that harassment is a convenient tool that should be used to keep annoying women in check. And women, of course, have to make sure they behave in a way that doesn’t “provoke” abuse.
I’m so tired of the endless self-congratulation of Liberals who screech, “Republicans hate women and immigrants!” as if they were any better. It would be so much more productive for people to stop denouncing the other side’s bigotry and concentrate on their own. There is nobody with any claim to moral superiority here.ย
This is exactly why the ACLU is so impressive. The will defend anyone whose civil liberties have been violated. They have even defended people who have worked to destroy the ACLU itself.

Exactly! That’s the way it is supposed to be. And that’s the kind of conviction that I really admire.

Here is just one example of what I’m talking about: http://rudepundit.blogspot.com/2016/01/sarah-palin-and-donald-trump-69ing-on.html
Gosh, we are so superior, aren’t we?

I totally agree. This is why I’ve just had to limit my media intake from liberals and conservatives alike. I feel like I’m persecuted for being liberal, but not liberal enough. I’m an old fashioned liberal, which I guess is now more like a moderate, and my feminism can be defined thus: “I believe men and women are equal and that our people, culture, and institutions should adapt to this self-evident truth.” But that’s not nearly enough for many liberals these days because I didn’t footnote it with cis-gendered, LGTBQ, all the races, and etc. being equal. I didn’t allow for a spectrum of human equality that doesn’t demand one has a proclaimed identity, nor did I allow for people who refuse to identify. I just said “men and women are equal.” So I guess I’m an asshole. I guess Elizabeth Cady Stanton is too, then.

It got so, I’m having heart palpitations when I hear the word “inclusivity.” So yeah, the more shrill among us are scaring people away.
