School Shooting in Canada

Unfortunately, Canada is no stranger to school shootings. A teenager shot up a residential building and then a school in Saskatchewan today. Five people are dead.

  1. What a tragic, yet no-longer surprising situation! I know nothing about Canadian gun-control laws, so someone more knowledgeable will have to provide details.

The weapon was apparently a shotgun, routinely used for hunting in rural areas, and thus probably not strictly controlled.

Also, I think the article says that the shooting occurred on indigenous native territory, where national gun control laws may not apply.

Native Canadian commenters are needed to fully explain what happened here. So please elaborate.

  2. You know, I read this very interesting article in Hebrew yesterday (at last, some good surprising news!), wanted to link it and today it was finally translated into English. After reading this post, it made me wonder whether there is more in common between teen murderers from different cultures than people tend to suppose.

Great news: The Palestinian Authority is finally starting to fight the phenomenon of teenage terrorists:

A third of the terrorists of the last few months have been under the age of 20. The Palestinian Authority says that most of them suffer from personal difficulties and prefer to die ‘heroically.’

the Palestinians have gradually started to understand that these children and teenagers are not serving any interest, except for their own.

    But still read today:

A 13-year-old Palestinian girl tried to stab a security guard at the entrance to the settlement of Anathoth in the West Bank’s Binyamin region on Saturday morning. The security guard shot and killed her before she was able to hurt him.

    1. There are also cases in Russia, also very similar.

Teenagers are an at risk category because of the hormonal changes. If they weren’t taught any coping mechanisms, they might freak out in all kinds of way. This is a lot more about basic physiology than anything else.
