I keep hearing the following:
Clinton has held a lead among nonwhites of nearly 40 percentage points in national polls.
Does anybody know why black and Hispanic voters (who, I’m assuming, are referred to here as non-whites) don’t want Bernie?

The conventional wisdom is that non-whites (esp Blacks) don’t like white northern liberals and the Berniemeister is the Whitest Northernest Liberalist candidate imaginable.
Change any of the three descriptors and the resistance isn’t so strong,
Non-white northern liberals – okay (jessie jackson)
White southern liberals – okay (bill clinton)
White northern conservative – okay (blanking on an example though Trump supposedly is polling better than Sanders with blacks)
I’m not sure why anymore of why I’m sure very many if not most of US blacks are moderately to severely anti-semitic (though Jews, like NWL’s were allies in the Civil Rights period)

Why? Trying to find somebody lower in the society? A group of white people one can feel superior to and be supported in that by others both black and white?

“Why? Trying to find somebody lower in the society?”
Jews? low in US society? That’s a ridiculous thought.
I don’t know all the reasons (and the anti-semitism clusters in certain parts of the US black population it’s not everywhere all the time).
Here’s a link on some of the history (with links to more)

Yes, it is a bit funny to see American Jews as a downtrodden group. 🙂 I mean, 80 years ago, sure, but not today.

Anti-Semitism was, until the 1950s, still acceptable on many levels in America:

The problem with anti-Semitism, as a rabbi-professor once told me, it that ascribes too much influence from the Jews to the rest of society.

Anti-Semitism is immortal. But as you correctly point out, it no longer positions Jews as “low” but the exact opposite.

Quite true. Harry Truman, who was President from 1948 to 1952, actually publicly joked while he was President about how his wife would never let a Jew enter their home back in Missouri.

Hispanic people might very well dislike Bernie because of anti-Semitism. Other than that, I have no idea.
Liberals in general only tend to interact with Hispanics in the capacity of voiceless maids and quiet gardeners and have a very infantilizing, cloying vision of them.

They’re no better with blacks (the specifics vary but the result is the same infantilization but tinged with fear and revulsion rather than condescension).
northern liberals are also at the forefront of gentrification so they’ve got that going for them too

I am a ‘non-white’ thrush-festooned Thalidomide stump sucker. I’d vote for Hillary if, and only if, she lets me have that Dawg Bill for an evening. I’ll sport a blue frock and everything!
I just read that Cruz is Canadian born!
I thought one had to have been born in the great US of A – or it’s dependents, in order to become a POTUS?
Whatevs….
If this Cruz is Canadian born then he’s genetically predisposed to be a Commie Socialist.
Be afraid my friends, be very afraid.

Well, maybe Cruz was born in Alberta.
Does anybody know?

Alberta you say?
Meh, that’s not real Canada.
Albertans are just Texans with extra sweaters – and no hand guns.
We in the East call it the filthy “Blue Neck” “Emirate of Al’berta”

I have a friend who is very involved with the black lives matter movement and she has been very unhappy with the things that Bernie has had to say about racial justice. I haven’t been paying close attention to that conversation, but according to her, Bernie has more or less said that economic justice issues are more important than racial justice issues, and that we will fix lots of racial issues if we can just eliminate economic disparities. Apparently this is a line of argument (fixing economic problems is the solution to fixing racial problems) that comes up frequently from leftist whites, and blacks generally consider it to be bullshit.
I take no credit for this analysis, just repeating what I’ve heard from my friend.

This is the same reason why women also often feel excluded from the leftist discourse. It is crucial to fix the economy, but very rich women experience sexism, too. Hillary is an obvious example.
