Today Is the Happiest Day of My Life

See under the fold!

This is my daughter Klara! I gave birth to her a couple of hours ago. We are still not allowed to bring in our things, so these are hospital clothes. The Ukrainian style hat is provided by the hospital, too.

Even though we gave her the Jewish name Klara (pronounced with two “ah” like in “art” and not like in “eh”), she has the most Slavic appearance possible.

  1. Wow! Congratulations!!!

Klara was the name of your father’s mother, right?

In Israel there are no Klaras, so it is a Soviet-Jewish name only.

  3. I had no idea you were pregnant — I have tears in my eyes for you, there is nothing as thrilling and wonderful as a new baby. Look at those cheeks and that round little chin — she is simply adorable. Congratulations on becoming parents!

  5. So that is the masterpiece you have been working on! Congrats to both of you!

For Sweden, that little country between Swaziland and Switzerland – The name Klara is at position 15 on the popularity top list. 14198 girls and women answer to that name, and zero men. It seems to come from the Latin, earliest documentation in Sweden is 1449. During the 1990’s the name had an upsurge in popularity

      1. Sylvia Plath, too, it seems. Then I got curious and discovered that Pavlova and Cotton Mather were also born on this day. It starts to get meaningless after a while because Arsenio Hall and Arlen Specter are also on the list … so it gets harder to come up with a personality genealogy for the day.
