Has anybody here used Windows 10? Is it worse, the same as or not as bad as Windows 8?
Windows 8 was the worst computing experience I have has in my entire life. I’d rather go back to the screechy, slow modems of 1995 than use Windows 8 again. Is Windows 10 an improvement on that hellacious experience?

Lyn and I both migrated to Win10 back in the fall. To me, it was easy. There is also a sense of inevitability about it — that’s where Microsoft is pushing everyone. There are a few things to which to get accustomed, but the adjustment isn’t hard. Win8 is something Microsoft would like to forget. Win10 is more of a follow-on to Win7 than 8. Overall, I like 10. The bigger adjustment for some people (my wife, for example) is the impending death of Internet Explorer.

There are a number of free (or very low cost) excellent file managers available on the Internet that can replace Windows Explorer and will work with Windows 10.

Yes, letting the Internet Explorer go was hard. I was so used to it. But there was no hope for it. 😦

Windows 10 is much, much better than Windows 8. There are two interfaces you can use — one more like Windows 7, the other like Windows 8. There are some adjustments to security features and updates that you might need to do yourself, and that can be a little tricky, since those things are more hidden than I’d like. It took me awhile to figure it out on my sister’s computer. But that’s a one-time adjustment. I’d switch right now if my laptop was compatible (I have Windows 7, though, so I can’t complain except about the lack of support for the Windows app I was looking to download today). All in all, it’s a pretty smooth transition from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

This is good to know. I was afraid it would be as horrible as Windows 8. That was such a fiasco.

Windows 10 is better than Windows 8 in many respects, but it’s still not as good as Windows 7.

Windows 10 is perfectly fine. I was horrified by 8 and never migrated to that system. So I went from 7 to 10 and think the jump was fairly seamless.
I personally fiddled with a bunch of things so that it now appears and functions completely like Windows 7. (This included disabling Cortana. I have no desire to speak to my computer. I actually like that my computer and I can exist in happy silence…..)
At any rate, it took a bit of time to figure out all the little details so I could customize Windows 10 to my liking but once that was done, I’m pleased with it. And now that Microsoft is basically phasing out Windows 7, it makes a lot of sense to switch to 10.

I backed up everything on my Win 7 laptop, bit the bullet, and started the upgrade and went to bed. When I got up next morning, it told me the upgrade had failed, but at least it has stopped nagging me about it, and I continue using Win 7.
