Infantile Ideas for Infantile People

The time is soon approaching when Bernie Sanders will have to do the honorable thing and start touring the country telling his followers to vote for Hillary. Otherwise, the brainless, infantile losers that make such a large number of his followers will vote for Trump.

In spite of his obvious earnestness and honorability, Bernie keeps attracting complete idiots whose main characteristic is their militant immaturity. I don’t think the poor quality of many (not all, of course, but many, way too many) of his followers and collaborators reflects badly on Bernie. But it does tell us a lot about the value of his ideas. When I see the wilted airhead Sarandon squeak stupidly about “rrrrrrevolution”, I shudder when I imagine what kind of dreary horror such vapid, stupid creatures can inflict if they are allowed to bring their fantasies into reality.

  1. Wow. I am so disgusted by this interview. It’s as if people have no memory of the Nader/Bush/Gore disaster.

    1. Or Nixon, when people wouldn’t vote for Humphrey (although there was also the George Wallace candidacy that year, ick…)

  2. If I run my income through this calculator and just look at overall taxes, Cruz promises the biggest tax break, Clinton is closest to the current status quo, and Sanders will jack up the tax burden.

There are a lot of people who’d otherwise vote Republican who don’t think “candidate is encouraging rock chucking gun wielding mobs to come after me” is worth the trade off.

    1. The difference for me would be quite “yuuuuge”.

This may provide a bit of enlightenment about what will really happen if Sanders “taxes the rich” — it’s about how the US has become the world’s largest tax haven:

Expect sudden and aggressive capital flight immediately prior to a Sanders presidency — I personally don’t think there will be enough solicitors/lawyers available to create all of the IBCs and related entities needed to shelter that much cash in that short of an amount of time …

It’s bad enough that US corporate taxes are the highest in the world, but a Sanders presidency would turn all of the US economically into Illinois or worse, and that pretty much negates any benefit his “ideas” might provide.

  3. I am a Sanders voter but my current Facebook status says I am having trouble with some BernieBros who allege it is not sexist, but a mere sign of divorce trauma, to say that the reason not to vote for Clinton is that she is a B and a W like your ex wife and will do to the country what their ex wives did to them, ravage them.

  4. “Brainless, infantile losers.” Wow, Clarissa, that is The kind of insult I would expect to come out of Donald Trump’s vulgar mouth. Not the kind of thing I expect from a respected academic. Forget Susan Sarandon. Better to take a look at Erin Burnett’s CNN interview with Bernie. Earlier tonight, I posted, over at my blog, a considered analysis of the current state of the Democratic race, following Bernie’s sweep of Washington state, Alaska and Hawaii, all with 70% or more of the vote. Let’s wait and see what happens in Wisconsin and New York. Clarissa, I invite you and your commenters to read a different point of view about Bernie Sanders chances of winning on my blog.

      • We, academics, love to use colorful speech in a variety of languages. You should hear my very Argentinean Spanish where every other word is off-color. 🙂

  5. Sanders is an “outsider” in some senses, but he’s not an insurgent like Trump. He’s been a Democratic senator for decades, and when the primary is over (assuming he loses), he’ll start campaigning for Clinton.

Which is good, because she has some credibility problems on the left, and Sanders can help assuage those. As for Democratic voters saying “I’ll stay home/vote for Trump if Hilary is the candidate”, I’m pretty sure 99% of that is just trolling. It’s no accident that those sort of articles keep appearing in clickbait hungry venues like Salon.

    1. I hope you are right! This is a positive, hopeful approach that I like.

I need to stop watching MSNBC because it’s making me paranoid about Trumps chances of success.

        1. I never doubted that you, of all people, would do the right thing. The choice between Trump and Cruz is no choice at all. It’s an abomination.
