I only just now saw a longer clip from the interview that features Trump and MSNBC’s unctuous fellow with a combover. The MSNBC fellow says, at some point, “The Church doesn’t rule the government in this country. This isn’t Spain.”
I have already noticed that the main qualification for a high-paying job in journalism in this country is resolute, aggressive ignorance. But still I’m taken aback by the smugness of this reporter who obviously checked out of following the news back in the Franco era.
The funniest thing is that this idiot is, without a doubt, spending a lot of time mocking Trump for his ignorance of world affairs.

I agree. The cable news operations seem to be scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with new and photogenic faces to make inane comments about the news.

Both of my parents were involved to a greater or lesser degree in journalism but it was a real profession then. Now it seems to have devolved into something for the children of the rich to dabble in.
A few years ago Half-Sigma (now lionoftheblogosphere) would do background checks of varous writers for the NY Times and none of them had any academic background in journalism. They did all appear to have wealthy parents who could support them through the endless unpaid internships needed to pass through to make it on the payroll…
