Until my kid was at least 14 years old, I swear I never bought anything she wore — not a single item of clothing, outside of diapers. People (neighbors, friends, aunts and students and very nearly random strangers) gave me piles and boxes and heaps of hand-me-downs, not to mention plenty of gifts, and what they didn’t give us, her grandmother bought.
Once she hit the teen years, she started wanting specific gear, so I had to buy a few things. But yeah, it’s great.
