Some colleagues are getting hounded by debt collection services because their health insurance company isn’t paying for their medical expenses. Of course, these colleagues have been faithfully paying their premiums to the insurance company, the company is flush with money and desperate to pay, but the corrupt and lazy Governor Rauner is standing in the way.
So people are persecuted by debt collectors. For no fault of their own. What’s really curious, though, is that I’m the only person I have been able to find who keeps the story of Rauner’s depredations alive by writing about it all the time. It’s very hard to keep it going when nobody among the directly affected by this lunacy is joining me in raising a stink.

Maybe it’s the fact they’d have to utter “I’m being hounded by debt collectors” and it causes them shame even though it’s through no fault of their own. Most people aren’t like Donald Trump, bleating about how a bankruptcy or two is a smart business move.
Maybe there’s a lot of overwhelmed people who are dealing with other things on top of health insurance woes.
Maybe it’s the idea that health insurance is an “extra” instead of “part of my pay.” Otherwise, why would any of the fights about birth control and health insurance have any traction otherwise?

Or they simply blame Obama (see my recent post.) The fact that everything was fine throughout the first 7 years of Obama’s presidency and only went to hell in a basket when Rauner was elected tells them nothing.

Between students and faculty, there’s enough people to mount a recall petition. That needs to start. Where’s the union?

Everybody likes Rauner, though. There is no massive upswell of indignation.
Which is driving me crazy! Why aren’t people more angry?
