Elizabeth Warren for Veep?

I’m beginning to suspect that Joe Biden wants Hillary to lose the the election. He said she should choose Elizabeth Warren for her running mate. I know Warren has fans but they like her for her ideas, not her charm. And since a Veep is largely a ceremonial position, Hillary’s running mate should up her charm quotient, not lower it because, frankly, there is not that much space where it could descend.

Trump’s is a TV star, he knows how to work the cameras. Hillary needs somebody charismatic by her side. Somebody with the charm of a lamp post – even a really honest, intelligent, progressive lamp post – won’t cut it.

And I don’t in the least think that it’s wrong to expect politicians to bring charm to the table. All of us who get paid 10 times less than they do are managing to accept this reality.

So no, not Warren, please. And obviously not Bernie because all Trump will have to do is choose somebody in his forties, and the game is over. Hillary needs somebody young and smiley in a non-creepy way by her side.

  1. The alternative hypothesis is that Bernie supporters will stay home on election day and Trump wins. That could very well happen, and Warren is a major asset in connecting with and motivating that base. Biden is smart.

Many Americans are angry and want change. Bloomberg in an interview reported today spoke about the potential for that anger to boil over and for “guillotines” to emerge in the streets. Right now, Hillary is more associated with the establishment against which that anger is directed than she is with change, and that’s a problem. Unless she takes a more specific, positive position with regard to change, her election is at risk.

I’m not crazy about a Trump candidacy, but my fear is that Hillary and her advisors just don’t get it. The Clinton camp did their best to make Bernie a viable candidate, and if they do the same with Trump, they lose.

  2. Do you have any ideas on who should be VP? I agree it shouldn’t be Warren, but I don’t know who I’d choose.

  3. I think Cory Booker would be a good choice. He’s fairly young, good looking, smart, and charismatic. He also shores up the African-American and big city voting blocks; Hilary needs those groups to turn out strong.

    1. He’s definitely the most handsome/charming looking fella out of the ones whose names I see being tossed around.

          1. His office once called in the news so they could capture live footage of him rescuing a dog. Even by politician’s standards, an empty suit.

Counts Rabbi Boteach as his spiritual advisor. Just lol.

        1. I’ve never heard of him before today, which would back up the “no accomplishments” part of your statement.

  4. Warren should never be the VP candidate. She is more effective in the senate and would be trading all that power for a ceremonial, useless position in the white house. Her vacant seat would go to a republican. Bad idea.

  5. This Julian Castro fellow has a kinda weird looking face, but he’s definitely charismatic (and 41.)

Obama had a bad habit of removing the really effective people from their state level posts, leaving them to be filled with Republicans.

Of course he does. I’m fairly sure he hates her as much as the “liberal” media does.

He was a very odd choice for VP in the first place and would be a terrible candidate himself, but I think he can’t help but think he should be the nominee by acclamation.

I’ve said it before and will say it again: This is a deeply weird election….

That’s a weird thing to feel when you announce that no you’re not running and retiring from politics. But yes, Joe has foot-in-mouth disease and tends to be touchy feely, so he was already not a great candidate.

  8. “They gathered around a small rug with four candles, flowers and an imitation ballot box adorned with Bernie stickers. Each person was handed a replica ballot and took turns declaring what they would like to see changed — ending private prisons, bringing back Glass-Steagal financial regulations, labeling genetically modified foods and increasing access to college. A reporter for a local alternative weekly who participated in the ritual asked for more transparent public records laws.

Lafleur reminded participants to stay engaged in local politics, not just the presidential race.

“We can’t just be putting all our energy into Bernie, and when the election cycle is over, then what?” she said.

Then they circled the candles together, chanting “be the Bern, be the Bern, be the Bern,” a campaign slogan.

When they were finished, they passed around cherries and ginger lemonade.

“Anyone who wants more cherries is free to have them,” Lafleur said, and the ritual was over.”
