Jewish-Ukrainian Luck

Today I took Klara to campus for the first time to witness my new computer being installed, and of course, she had to start leaking from every place the moment we left the house. So I arrived on campus not with the clean, chic baby I left home with but with a baby that looks like a victim of habitual neglect.

And obviously, the quad has got to be in the process of being dug up, so I had to lug the car seat through a much longer route.

And the baby is spitting up again, so I got to go for the moment.

  1. Interesting baby news, but I’m curious as to how your school computer was “installed.” Did the school actually give you an old-fashioned “desktop” model with separate parts (keyboard, monitor, etc.) that had to be connected via cables — and thus isn’t portable, like a laptop?

    1. I requested a desktop. A laptop I already have because I bought one with my scholarship money. I’m over laptops, too. Right now I’m at my home desktop with a huge screen.

  2. Well, I agree. You can get a lot more firepower (and usually for considerably less money) in a desktop model, and you can easily add additional hardware as your needs/desires grow. My old computer died last month after 8 good years, and I replaced it will a big custom-built tower model that’s under my desk.

But I know a number of people who’ve told me that they buy laptops not so much for the portability, but because the idea of having to hook together multiple cables and cords intimidates them.

    1. That’s an exaggeration. It’s really not that hard. I could have easily done it myself but I needed the IT guy anyway to hook me up to the university system. That I cant’ do myself because I don’t have the permission.
