Crazy Nannies

What I find maddening is getting messages from prospective nannies who tell me that they have 3 or 4 kids, one of whom is an infant, and they’ll be happy to take care of my baby. This is so ridiculous that I get angry. What, I’m supposed to believe that if two 4-month-olds begin to scream, she’ll disregard her own and rush to take care of mine? If that’s true, she should be in psychiatric care. And if I agree to this insane arrangement, I should be in psychiatric care.

I don’t even respond to these messages because I’m not sure I will be able to contain my anger.

  1. Yes!!!!

In my opinion, the best nannies are professional nannies who either do not have kids of their own or have grown up kids. The ones who have small children and are hoping to bring them along while they watch yours are always trouble, and I would never trust my child with them.

      1. You’re quite right to do so. I have also had very good luck with Hispanic nannies in their late 20s or early 30s who do not have kids yet. They are very common in the area of the country I live in, but may not be accessible to you. But the one experienced late 40s-early 50s babysitter I had was also amazing!

    1. Even worse, what does one do with triplets? If you can give a breast each to two kids or hold a bottle in each hand, what do you do for the third kid in the meanwhile? Imagine the trauma of always being the one left out when the other two are fed.

      1. Are you absolutely sure that they are offering to bring their kids along? My nanny has a kid but her kid is in daycare. Are you certain they are not just trying to inform you of their experience with children, including their own?

        1. I think it’s more like they are expecting me to bring Klara to their place. Which is absolutely the last thing I’d do. But yes, the way they word it is, “I enjoy taking care of my 4-month-old and would love to help you with yours, too.”
