Oh God, a horrible act of terror in Orlando. I just found out and I’m horrified. I don’t get why it’s referred to as a mass murder in all the media. As if gay people did not deserve to be recognized as a group, and a group that is often targeted for persecution at that.
You know, there was also another shooting in Orlando that same day. I kept thinking it was more details from the same shooting, but no…we’ve got to ask “Which one?”
Anyways, a mass murder can be a hate crime, like this was. I’m just so sick of this trend of people deciding to take out as many people as possible in their murder-suicides.

If California was an act of terror – and there the killer actually knew the victims – then why isn’t this? The victims are very clearly attacked as a group on ideological grounds and not because a former employee has a private grievance.

Some voces are saying not to call it a hate crime but an act of ISIS.

Are those the same voices who have already started using this as part of their electoral campaign? 😦

This shooting appears to be both a hate crime and an ISIS-inspired act of international terrorism, so partisans who want to stress one cause and minimize the other can find evidence to support their viewpoint. Some gun-control advocates are also seeing it mainly as further proof that sweeping gun control measures are needed.
Both Hillary and Bernie mentioned the word “ISIS” today in their response to the tragedy — Obama didn’t.
