Harping On and On

And I know I’ve been harping on this endlessly and everybody is bored to death but I still believe it isn’t being harped on enough. When I heard the words “Donald J Trump calls for a complete ban on Muslims entering the United States”, my blood ran cold. I was so horrified I thought I was going to vomit.

And yes, he later qualified and then qualified some more, and it’s not all Muslims but just bad Muslims, and it’s not serious, and it’s unenforceable anyway.

I heard all this crap and I don’t care.

Uttering these words in public, as part of our mainstream political discourse, has covered us all in such slime, has brought something so disgusting into our lives that we can’t just pretend to forget it.

And hey, this was just the beginning. This very man – who incidentally has whored his way through the globe- has called for jailing women who chose not to carry to term unwanted pregnancies. And again, your blood either did or didn’t run cold when you heard that.

And yes, I’m boring but we have all swallowed this crap way too fast and went on like nothing ever happened.

  1. Yes. I agree. It’s unbelievable to me that more time and interest if focused on Hilary Clinton’s e-mails than Trump’s overtly bigoted statements. One is, at worst, at fault for bureaucratic bumbling, and the other is unapologetically championing racist, misogynistic, and bigoted policies. And somehow voters and the media think these two things are on par with one another? Unreal.

  2. “Just kidding” and “can’t you take a joke” is the rhetorical refuge of bullies and the shield behind which “nice” fence sitting enabling cowards hide behind.

“Oh I was just kidding about [indefensible statement]” wink

As I’ve said before, my mother said she was grateful when GWB specifically distinguished between Al Qaida and Muslim immigrants. I didn’t understand this at the time, because shouldn’t that be a minimum? Only now I understand this. I feel quite misanthropic.

    1. So true! It’s unbelievable that I actually remember GWB’s position on Muslims with gratitude and nostalgia. Because he never even conceived of stooping this low.

Do you feel as strongly about Merkel’s announcement that she doesn’t care what migrants do to Germans, she’s going to keep bringing them in and the German public will just have to learn with sexual molestation and threats of violence?

Okay, those werent her words but she’s clearly prioritizing the continued arrival of large numbers of middle eastern migrants over the health and safety of the German public.

The question is, where is the acceptable point between excluding arrivals on the basis of religion and caring more about migrans than citizens?

    1. I don’t understand what Merkel is doing at all. She is known to be extremely stubborn and being one of those hier stehe ich und kann nicht anders folks. Remember Greece? She seems beyond rigid, and I fear such people.
