If there were a guaranteed basic income, Trump would be guaranteed a win.

    1. Welfare (not bound to some kind of activity) creates lethargic, low information people. A rise in low information voters would increase T’s voter base.

I’ve just decided to only refer to the current rep nominee as T. I’ll see how long that lasts…

        1. And I’m sick and tired to talk about how much Welfare is a the biggest economical problem in North America, and hearing that FREE STUFF is only bad for poor people, but so great for rich people.

Even liberals seem to not get it.

          1. Trump’s base is too racist to accept this kind of program, as they believe it affords African-Americas T-bone steak, Escalades, and big screen TVs already.

To believe Trump would win with that is like believing a three-toed sloth could do a 100-yard dash in 15 seconds or less.

No, they’d be all for it if they could be assured only they, the “deserving” could get it.

        2. Not true. In the US, welfare is largely received by whites. Uneducated white men are the people who have been dropping off the job market.

You are describing the situation in Canada where many immigrants are, indeed, on welfare. But the US is very different and its immigrants are different.

            1. For some reason, these comments ended up in the spam and I had to unspam it. The linked article had no value to me because it isn’t about actual food stamp recipients. It’s about people WHO SAY they received food stamps. What people say is an indication of only that they chose to say this thing for some mysterious reason. Whether they actually received food stamps is en entirely different issue.

My general rule is: never pay any attention to “studies” based on what people say.

      1. Again, Cliff answered before I could. People who veg in front of screens all day and have no stake in productive society are likely to want a leader who will entertain with outrageous speeches but will lack any knowledge of the world because they don’t need his knowledge. Or the world.

  1. As the Trump campaign descends into madness, one of two major external factors could still throw the election in his favor:

One or more major terrorist attacks in Western Europe or the U.S., or a sudden collapse of the already tottering U.S. economy —

Either factor could raise the fear level, combined with the massive lack of trust in Hillary’s honesty and trustworthiness, into an overwhelming vote for CHANGE — “any CHANGE — rather than a promised third term of the last eight years.

Whatever your hopes or fears, no one can claim that this most unique of all elections since the end of the World War II can yet be predicted!
