Funny Link

While I run to meeting #3, please peruse this absolutely hilarious and deeply ridiculous piece on why the naked Trump statues are bad.

  1. Eh.

I cannot reserve outrage, even the pro forma kind, on Trump’s behalf. Maybe I would feel differently if he and his supporters even afforded other people a minimum level of courtesy and respect. They do not. I’m too busy wondering which supporter is quietly staging Triumph of the Will in his/her head.

The most I can say is, “It’s vulgar and not to my taste.”

Consider, “Don’t start none, don’t get none”, and “Don’t write checks your body can’t cash”. This deference to this imagined sensitivity is a waste of time and energy and is not read as consideration but as submission by that ilk.

  2. Mocking somebody’s physical features is in poor taste and quite unnecessary when Trump presents us with so many opportunities for us to laugh at him.

I’m with you though, this article is ridiculous. Just the idea of ‘body-shaming’ (and most other shaming) is specious to begin with. And thank you for offering that insight a few years ago when you wrote a post about how the locus of shame is inside yourself.

    1. I’m not sure why mocking one’s intellect is more acceptable than mocking one’s appearance. It’s something too American for me to understand. Both the intellect and appearance are partly determined by genes and partly by personal efforts.

  3. Oh FFS. This article is exactly what’s wrong with the left right now. These are the very sorts of things I avoid reading because it makes anyone who is mildly liberal look like a humorless, elitist asshole. Click away! Click away!

I’m sorry but you couldn’t be more wrong here. This article is exactly what’s wrong with liberals. The left is concerned with things like, you know, economic equality, whereas centrist liberals devote their efforts on identity politics. Stuff like whether the Marvel Comics superhero team has the right number of transgenders. Or whether the accent of an animated taco in a movie was offensive.

“We heard from readers who found the taco to be a damaging portrayal of a predatory queer woman”.

Yup, that’s liberalism in america in 2016.

The left is accused of not caring for race/gender because they’re supposedly a one-trick pony (economic class above everything else as an issue) and at the same time accused of caring too much about trivial shit like this. You can’t have it both ways. It’s dishonest.

Thanks. I didn’t think I had to explain that! Apparently I was wrong!
