Canadianness

Some genius listed my office number as belonging to the Admissions Office, and now I get dozens of phone calls from people I can’t help. The most recent call was from a gentleman in Toronto. Of course, I had to mention that I’m from Montréal, and in order to exult in our shared Canadianness we spoke in French to each other, even though neither one of us is a Francophone.

That was super cool. I’m feeling very patriotic right now.

    You’re assimilating!

Before you know it you’re going to start asking every new person you meet where they’re from and struggling to make some tenuous connection through some friend of a relative (or relative of a friend) who drove through there (or sort of close to there) once.

A little after that whenever someone mentions someone famous who was born in Canada you’ll say “Did you know they’re Canadian?”

    1. OK, I only found out because he started yelling, “I’m calling from Toronto! This is expensive! What do you mean, it’s the wrong number??” And I wanted to pacify him. 🙂

      It worked.
