Sad Horse Lavrov

Kerry finally decided to stop “lying prostrate at the feet of Lavrov” (c), aka Sad Horse Lavrov, and refused to meet him in Geneva to talk about Syria.

The only reason Russians go to these meetings is to sell the narrative of “pathetic Americans keep begging us to help them out, those stupid weaklings” at home. There is no need to try so hard to help them do it.

??? The news reports I’m seeing say that Kerry WILL meet with Lavrov “in a last-ditch effort” next week.

But the meeting will obviously be yet another waste of time. Nobody but the loons at The Nation magazine believes that Russia and the U.S. have the same goals for Syria.

      1. This from CNN:

And Obama has questioned whether a deal was possible given the “gaps of trust” between the two countries after his meeting with Putin. A senior administration official told reporters Tuesday the US would “walk away” from talks with Russia if a good agreement couldn’t be reached.
“We would like to see this, if it can get done, happen quickly because of the enormous humanitarian needs,” Deputy National Security Adviser Ben Rhodes told reporters. “If it cannot get done, we won’t sign on to a bad deal.”

  2. Stop the presses! Kerry and Lavrov have announced agreement on a cease-fire in Syria to take effect after the weekend. We’ll see how long that lasts.

The State Department is hailing this is as a great diplomatic achievement, because it will “ground the Syrian Air Force and stop the barrel-bombing of civilians.”

Obama should have grounded the Syrian Air Force five years ago by cratering its runways and enforcing a non-fly zone after the “red-line” ultimatum. That would have stopped the barrel-bombing and kept Putin out of the Middle East. Hillary, for all her failures as Secretary of State, was at least in favor of that.

Whoever wins this election, our weakest, most incompetent foreign-policy President since WWII will finally be out of office in four months.

    1. Yeah, it’s only round 5678094321 of the agreement that is broken before it is signed.

As we know from history, “any agreement with Russians isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.” (C)
