An Explanation Is Forthcoming

It looks like the world is eagerly awaiting a video message from Trump about his nasty comments. But it’s clear what he’s going to say: Hillary was the one who groped the women and persecuted a married woman in between founding ISIS, signing NAFTA, and starting the birther movement.

I haven’t heard the actual comments (and don’t want to), but I think that it’s a yuuuuge mistake for him to apologize or explain beyond “Hey, it’s trash talk, it’s what guys do, get over it!” (I kept imagining Judge Judy’s voice when I wrote that, so that’s weeeiiirdd)

These were apparently meant private comments and anyone who doesn’t know the kinds of things that men say to each other about women or is scandalized by them (or takes them seriously) is not….. rational.

This is another case of the private flooding into public space and degrading public discourse.

You need to hang around with better men if that’s your idea of banter.

It’s not banter, it’s locker room trash talk (the parts I’ve seen referred to).
That it’s being taken seriously as something that should be discussed in public is not a good sign for the level of public discourse….

        1. He doesn’t bring any knowledge, experience or expertise in the public realm to the job he is trying to get. All he brings is his personality. So people discuss the personality. I’d also prefer that we discuss his policy positions but there aren’t any.

He’s shown that the republican party is terminally out of step with its supposed base.

In a sense he’s been a rorsharch (the human equivalent of books like the Celestine Prophecy which have so little content that they can be whatever the reader wants).

They need to talk to his smarter supporters and figure out how to distill their concerns into a sane national platform.

If they can do that then Hillary will be a one term president (what the democrats deserve for passing her over in 2008).

            1. They won’t do it. I saw Mike Pence at the Veep debate and the reaction to the party leaders to him. They’ve learned nothing whatsoever. It’s like they are in a bubble that nothing can break through.

Umm, no. And what the fuck is up with this ‘the parts I’ve seen’ shit? It’s a 4 minute video. Are you really categorizing it as ‘trash talk’ vs ‘banter’ (wow, that changes everything) without even watching it in full?

It’s still a ‘No’, though. Have you read the NYTimes article that says he did exactly what he said in the video to someone else?

Also, Erin Burnett (no liberal, FYI) said this when she heard the audio.

Looks like it’s his M.O. rather than plain trash talk.
