Boredom Voters

And this is proof that, as I said, people voted for Trump out of boredom.

  1. now this is interesting. but the bored part is wrong. routine jobs are jobs that have had their wages slashed…so basically people who had low paying jobs that used to be high paying jobs (with manufacturing being the biggest example) are / were very pissed and want “change”.

How likely is that to occur is up for debate, but this 100% fits with the narrative of their economic situation has been getting worse for 30 years and they are lashing out. Does that make more sense? I think your bored narrative misses this distinction.

    1. That is all true. But literally, they elected a billionaire who thinks wages are too high while complaining about their wage stagnation.

However, “farming, manufacturing, administrative, clerical and sales jobs “have routines which get repeated ad infinitum. They are as boring as fuck.

In my last office job, by year 2 I could do it in my sleep. Nothing significant changed. I worked with people so stuck in routine that if I so much as moved the candy dish five feet, they’d erupt. When I worked at a gas station, I completed all of my side work and I would routinely bring in the amount of books one could read on a 24 hour international flight. If I tried a new way of counting inventory to make it quicker and more efficient, people freaked out. I absolutely engaged in small talk with people who wanted it and would greet people ASAP because I was bored.

On the Myers-Brigg, for what it’s worth, I’m INTP, who is extremely introverted.

The worst would be when I was doing boring stuff in a job which stressed me out because of management, pay or scheduling.

Trump had a flair for saying shit constantly that would be a laugh line in a political comedy. If I scripted it, it would be rejected as ludicrous.

Boredom makes people very very stupid.

      1. Yes, these are bored, sated folks who make over $70,000 a year and feel very aggrieved because they can’t buy an even more enormous house with more garages.

This is the rebellion of the spoiled brats.

Over 44% of people didn’t come out to vote. Many liberals couldn’t be bothered to come out and vote for the not-exciting-enough Hillary in a year when multiple SCOTUS seats hang in the balance, and both Houses are Republican. Honestly, many of my liberal brethren are such fuckin’ a$$holes. To any liberals among the 44%: You call yourself a liberal and don’t come out to vote because she doesn’t tickle you below the belt? Maybe reminds you of a grade school teacher/librarian/your mom? Well F U. Now we get Trump, and once the EPA is dismantled and our food and water start getting poisoned again, I will ask you where that tickles you.

  3. Anything on that chart for “You didn’t vote, the bad person won, and now you’re telling everyone including those who voted to assume the bad person isn’t bad and wants love and world peace despite all available evidence?”

    Meh.

    1. I only didn’t vote because I’m not a citizen. But I donated first to Bernie and then to Hillary. I don’t know what else I could have done. Going door to door is not an option because of my accent. People literally don’t understand what I say.

I know you didn’t vote because of citizenship and you did all that you could.

I was thinking of some very stupid people on my Facebook who I’m related to who are going with this line of rhetoric. “I didn’t vote for President at all and I’m a citizen but Trump and Clinton made some pretty speeches yesterday and that means everything is love and rainbows and unicorn farts and he self proclaims a lack of racism and he was nice to some media figure. And you’re not open minded, you horrible progressive.”

This stupid person has a medical degree and makes quite a bit of money. Oh well, at least he’ll get a nice tax break?

  5. y’know, when Hillary made her “deplorables” comment, it felt as if she were talking to me directly. I know many liberals would look down upon me IRL, so if the Democrats want to be more successful, they need to be less elitist. As I said in another comment, I did not vote for Trump. But I couldn’t bring myself to vote for Clinton.

Hopefully Trump is far less hawkish on foreign policy than HRC…

    1. Talking about elitist, it’s the Republicans who just elected a billionaire who inherited his wealth and has never known anything but extreme opulence. It’s a bit strange to talk about anybody else’s elitism in this context.

      1. yes, Trump is a 1%’er for sure. On Youtube, Cenk Uygar would call Trump a buffoon. Then he would go on to say that Trump is running his campaign on very little money. What Cenk didn’t realize was that wasn’t an insult to Trump. That made Trump to appear as a shrewd business man running things on a shoestring budget whereas Clinton had tons of corporate sponsorship. There is allot of speculation as to why Trump wouldn’t release his tax returns. Maybe he didn’t pay taxes. Maybe he is broke. If that is the case, maybe his talent is really that he is a showman like PT Barnum. All style and no substance. It might all be a big joke to him. So long as we don’t get in any more wars and the economy doesn’t tank, it really doesn’t bug me if the US is a running joke to the rest of the world.

  6. “Jobs that are routine” (from the graphic)

Isn’t this just shorthand for “jobs that are easy to automate and/or outsource”?

People in jobs that are vulnerable to those processes will probably rather vote for a candidate that at least pretends to be sad about the process to one who gladly export as many jobs as possible while high 5ing those who are raking it in.

I think many people don’t really believe that Trump can return manufacturing jobs, but at least he publicly recognizes their loss. Clinton couldn’t even summon a fascimile of sympathy for those being pushed into obsolescence.

Her own campaign manager wrote that “she has begun to hate everyday Americans”* and yeah, that might be shorthand for the use of the phrase in campaign politics but she never really communicated sympathy or empathy for large parts of the electorate which is why she didn’t campaign enough in some states that turned out to be key….

    1. Trump’s whole life has been about exporting these jobs. But as you say, let’s not expect people to vote on the basis of reason and logic. A President plays the role of a kindly, benevolent parent who has to process our emotions and return them to us in a safe format, just like a parent of a toddler.
