People who seriously use the expression “flyover country” are limited, small-minded, parochial fools. If they got over their terror of Otherness and drove or, better yet, took a Greyhound bus, through the small towns of the Rust Belt and the Midwest, they’d enrich themselves intellectually and emotionally. And if you find such places boring, it’s because you project your own emptiness on them.
I’ve done I-70 from Pennsylvania to St. Louis several times. There’s only so much entertainment value in corn fields and frankly, if Indianapolis were to disappear, I wouldn’t miss it! 🙂

The most boring place I’ve been to is New York. Never saw anything but boorish, badly dressed people there. Even at the opera, even at expensive restaurants. It’s like people go there on purpose to dress badly. I went dozens of times, and it was always boring.

I don’t think I have ever found any place to be boring. However, I do find some places offensive, for example, places where almost everyone wants to talk about Jesus most of the time.

Offensive is the wrong word. Boring, uncomfortable, but hardly offensive.
