Best Case Scenario

The best case scenario is that Trump starts building his wall, concentrates on that, goes around giving speeches about his big shiny wall, feels important and good about himself, and leaves us the hell alone. The wall is neither very useful nor otherwise, so let him play at it.

It’s still pretty shitty because the Congress and his team all suck but at least the madman will be distracted by his pet project.

      1. If your current marginal tax rate is over 25%, yes. Many middle-class individuals pay a higher rate than that.

If you have investments that pay capital gains, yes again.

  1. The country needs major investments in infrastructure esp in parts of the country that voted for him. Rebuilding America would create so many jobs and it would be right up his alley. He loves opening ceremonies , etc. It takes money away from the military industrial complex so congress probably won’t let it happen.
If liberals turn their back on him like they did to Bush , he will only have corpoate shills from the oil and gas industry in his ear.

    1. We do need massive infrastructure spending and the only candidate who had a plan to do that didn’t get elected–though she won the popular vote.

But Trump is not actually going to be running the country. He’s too lazy and spoiled for that. Paul Ryan and Mike Pence will be running the country. And both of them are against any type of governmental investment in the country. The only governmental actions they support are ones they intervene in women’s bodies or between the bodies of gay people. Trump will just occasionally intervene in order to say or do something misogynist or racist– or perhaps to start a needles war. But basically Ryan and Pence will be running the country.

Goodbye social security; goodbye environment; goodbye health care; goodbye Roe v. Wade; hello financial crisis.

      1. Ryan and Pence are total sacks of shit, we always knew that. But they are predictable type of shit. And that’s better than the total uncontrollable insanity of Trump. Ryan is evil but he is not crazy. I can’t imagine him going, “yeah, let’s go nuke somebody for fun.”

        1. As for what Ryan and Pence can do, let the American people get their full dose of it and decide if that’s what they want. If it is, then it’s only fair that they should have it.

          1. But the sad thing is that the majority of Americans voted for Clinton. And as more votes get counted, her popular margin is growing. It’s our unfortunate electoral college system that’s preventing the true will of the people from being realized. Sigh……………..I do agree with you comment above though. Ryan is evil but I don’t think he’s irrational.

  2. The most hopeful scenario I can come up with is that, due to his outsized ego and narcissism, Trump spends most of his time getting into petty feuds with congress and pursuing personal grudges and as a result nothing much gets done.

    1. Basically. Petty feuds with Republican members of Congress, who’ll get so fed up with him they just deny him shit out of pique. And vice versa. How much of the way Trump treated allies in public was a function of how he actually is and how much of it was because it plays well on TV? There is only so much abasement people will perform in public and these Senators think the world of themselves.

I don’t see elected Democrats doing much, tbh. Or reproductive rights organizations. I was so annoyed with NARAL during that whole passing the ACA fight, I let my membership lapse. You’re a one issue organization! Act like it! The NRA & the ACLU do much better on this, imho.

Republicans are much better at gridlock than governing.

  3. The extreme danger is that Trump manages to change the Supreme Court to one which will take away all our liberties. (To understand what I mean, just read the first ten amendments to the Constitution. Or at least the first nine.)
