Reactions to the Election

This is from somebody who is normally a very intelligent and strong blogger:

My Clinton/Kaine sign is staying in my window because that seems like the best way to indicate a safehouse.

A safehouse. Just like that.

Liberals seem ecstatic that Trump won because it allows them to feel deliciously apocalyptic. Taking out the trash and brushing their teeth become acts of incredible bravery in the midst of horrifying oppression.

Conservatives are disappointed and resentful that Trump won. For 8 years, they had an excuse to feel deliciously apocalyptic. Taking out the trash and brushing their teeth were acts of incredible bravery in the midst of horrifying oppression. And now what? It all goes to those stinky Liberals? And one has no more reason to feel sorry for oneself? How offensive!

Seriously, though, I’m seeing quite a bit of jouissance on the Liberal side. Was there an element of throwing the election in order to experience all this drama and to feel important and persecuted? I mean, nothing happened, and people rant about safehouses, and all that kind of crazy stuff.

What? I’m sorry, the only way to indicate you are “safe” is to actually talk and interact with people so you have a reputation as being “safe.” The whole “safety pin” thing has been coopted.

This is as dumb as hell. I already didn’t put up political bumper stickers on my car before this election or for any of the elections because I don’t need my car vandalized.

I decked myself out in a flag pin, red lipstick, a red hoodie, a blue shirt, and white pants yesterday to go to a class taught by a Trump loving professor but I recognize that was all to make myself better.

Is Masha Gessen worth listening to?

      1. \ I liked the article by Masha Gessen. But I don’t believe that American people will take this seriously.

        Which article?

          1. \ It’s a bit comical that she presents herself as some Russian dissident but in what she says, she’s right.

Why is she not a dissident?

            1. The real Russian dissidents like Ildar Dadin are brutalized and raped in jails in Russia and not living in opulence in New York. She caters to Americans. Her relevance in Russia is nil.

  2. The first hint that Trump plans to slash Medicare appeared yesterday. I have a blog post that will be up in a few minutes on his health care agenda, published yesterday.

  3. People have spent months comparing Trump to Hitler, is it any wonder that those people now expect the Gestapo to show up any minute and beat down their doors?

I don’t expect anything good to come of the Trump presidency, but the constant Hitler comparisons did absolutely nothing to help people on the left understand Trump’s voters and their concerns. Some of Trump’s voters could have been and still could be pulled back to the Democrats side, but dismissing them all as deplorables and Nazis does nothing to help that.

Yes, it was the left doing that and not you and centrist democrats. Like, Bernie and his supporters got called racists for making the same argument that you just stole (‘Some of Trump’s voters could have been and still could be pulled back to the Democrats side’).

You must be out of your fucking mind. This is some shameful shit right here.

      1. Ummmm, are you confusing me with someone else?

I have never compared Trump to Hitler, it’s a really bad comparison if you have more than the shallowest knowledge of how Hitler came to power. And I certainly never called Bernie supporters racists. And I wouldn’t describe myself as a centrist Democrat. And the idea that some of Trump’s supporters could be won over to the Democrats side isn’t exactly a super-original idea that can “be stolen”.

          Could be.

The point remains: ‘iredeemable deplorables’ was, literally, the creation of the clinton campaign. To claim that it was the ‘left’ is pure retcon fantasy.

“And the idea that some of Trump’s supporters could be won over to the Democrats side isn’t exactly a super-original idea that can “be stolen””

A super non-original idea that the clinton campaign scoffed at, as we now know.

          1. I meant the left in the broad sense of the word that includes the far-left and center-left, I certainly meant what I wrote to include Clinton and her supporters. The Nazi comparisons were mostly confined to Facebook, but I saw TONS of them, and they were posted by people all along the political spectrum on the left, Bernie supporters and Clinton supporters.

The deplorables-thing was definitely a creation of the Clinton campaign and it was definitely a mistake.

            1. The last thing we need right now is to splinter in useless recriminations. Let’s agree that it’s not the fault of Bernie supporters, Clinton supporters, Stein supporters, or those who didn’t turn out to vote. The party leadership messed up badly, bigly and ugly. They need to all go away and free up the space to the younger generation. But let’s not blame each other. I don’t believe in the least that any of our groups caused this.

And yes, it’s important not to cry wolf too much because when bad shit really happens, everybody will be too jaded to hear.

              1. Hey, I just found about the leaked debate question the other day. I’m angry and deeply disappointed. I never idealized Hillary. I knew she was going to approve Keystone and the TPP the second she got elected. I knew that many of her campaign positions were lies to pacify Bernie supporters. But this petty, childish thievery is simply sociopathic in nature. I’m very upset about that.

  4. Here enjoy a musical break:
    Chorus: x2]
The KKK took my baby away
    They took her away
    Away from me

    Now I don’t know
    Where my baby has been
    They took her from me
    They took her from me
    I don’t know
    Where my baby has been
    They took her from me
    They took her from me

    Ringy, ringy, ringy
    Up the President
    And find out
    Where my baby went
    Ringy, ringy, ringy
    Up the FBI
    And find out if
    My baby’s alive
    Yeah, yeah, yeah

Bonzo goes to bitburg then goes out for a cup of tea
As I watched it on TV somehow it really bothered me
Drank in all the bars in town for an extended foreign policy
    Pick up the pieces

I don’t know which conservatives you’re talking to, but this conservative (ME) is in a GREAT mood — as in the Leslie Gore hit song, “Sunshine, Lollipops, and Rainbows.”

I just got back from an 8-mile mountain hike in the beautiful, still summer-like Phoenix area with the local Austrian Society, feeling all energized with my endorphins flowing. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Ah, feels so good to be alive today!
