I can’t figure out whether the article I’m reviewing for a very prestigious journal is truly as brilliant as it seems or I’m so flattered by being asked to review for this journal that my happiness is impacting my perception of the article.

🙂 Definitely the latter (don’t worry — it happens to everyone when they ‘level up’ in professional recognition); not sure about the former. It’s probably a good idea to review, leave it be for a bit, then come back to it. Also ask yourself: if you had received this manuscript to review for one of the “lesser” journals, would you still think it’s brilliant?
