Russian ISIS

After liberating parts of Mosul, Iraqi soldiers found passports belonging to terrorists who came from other countries to join ISIS. Most of them were, of course, from Russia. And not just from Chechnya and Dagestan but from the European part of Russia.

Somebody knows how to play a long game. And that somebody hasn’t been American for a long time. The best this country has had in terms of geopolitical strategy was Kissinger, and he was fucking horrible.

  1. can you send / show links that purports what you are saying? would like to read

Very curious tho, just to be clear are you saying putin planted isis members so he could invade.. or? not sure your point. Radical islam is one if not the biggest thorns and threats to putin no? Your point is too opaque for me to follow, but genuinely curious

    1. Here you can see some of the actual passports: http://oleg-leusenko.livejournal.com/6110902.html

No, Putin didn’t need an excuse to be in Syria. Why would he? The US would swallow anything he does, so why look for excuses? What he needed is to weaken the EU by making sure that a wave of refugees from the Middle East goes there. Strong ISIS was good for him. And radical Islam has long been his greatest support in Russia. 98% of voters in Chechnya vote for him. Kadyrov- the president of Chechnya- is Putin’s best friend.

When I was in Cyprus last year one of the channels was Chechnya TV (mostly in Russian with some Chechen thrown in). It was extremely weird. Once there was a report that was like 15 minutes long about the opening of a single supermarket (!) with a personal visit by Kadyrov – whose body language (like always) was like a bored 10 year old boy. He brightened up when they gave him a special gold credit card and he grinned and played with it until he got bored again.

There was another story about Chechen “fashion” which had him deliver a long speech in Chechen while his audience pretended to find it interesting.

Apparently Chechens (like more and more muslims the world over) have adopted the Saudi tradition of wrapping up women to hide their shame and/or inferiority. They’re still allowed to show their faces (shameless hussies!) but I’m sure that before long they’ll be completely erased from social life.

        1. Absolutely. They are now practicing child marriage, forced marriage, etc and publicizing it as much as possible to show that Putin will never do anything against them. This is the price Putin pays for peace.

          1. A professional acquaintance of mine did a year of field work in Chechnya. I was utterly appalled at her stories of so-called ‘gender roles’ there, including the custom that women must kneel/bow to all men they encounter and step off the pavements to let men pass. She, like a typical liberal, tried to pass it off under the banner of cultural relativism and ‘respect’, but I’m pretty sure I know abject women-hating when I see it.

            1. And hey, this was a Soviet region, just like all the rest of them, with 100% female employment, zero religious practice, etc. This is not the cultural norm and hasn’t been in over a century.

      2. I assume what you are saying is that because the locals are opposed to radical islam then the islamists have made him more popular? because obviously the members of radical islam are not friends of his…….. but that is interesting if you are saying he gets strength from fighting them. credibility with the “common chechan and such?

I won’t speak for Clarissa, but it’s a good idea to remember that not all of Putin’s supporters support him for the same reason. As a rather adept politican, he attracts different…. streams of support from different sources. They then either ignore or make excuses for positions that they don’t agree with.

So… he’s able to tap into support from traditional ant-muslim feeling while supporting Kadyrov’s drive to Islamicize Chechnya. Who knows what every day Chechens think? I’m sure polls and “elections” are maniupulated to show whatever Karyrov and/or Putin want.

In Syria… well I’ll write about that soon on my blog (keep watching there!)
