Resistance

If people really wanted to resist they’d

A) become active in local elections;

B) refuse to read, listen or watch any more stories about Trump’s tweets, celebrities who refuse to attend inauguration, what Meryl Streep said and Trump responded, and all this sort of crap. We already pissed away an election on this garbage. Enough already. It’s all distraction tactics. Time to stop.

  1. Clarissa, would a similar Google Sheet for your state houses and state senates like the one I linked to in the other thread be useful to you and the people at your university? If people don’t vote in off-year elections, it must be doubly true of turnout for state elections in any year.

Isn’t it infantile consumerism? I want it NOW!! NO! I DON’T want to WORK for it! It’s mine! Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

Okay, that’s a little bit of an exaggeration….. but not much.

And, as I pointed out on my blog, all the real effect will be is to lower the bar for evaluating Trump’s performance. He didn’t destroy the country in three day? He’s doing better than expected and proving the nay-sayers wrong!

So true. Right now we are speeding towards a two-term Trump presidency.

  3. If I wanted to get Trump re-elected I think I would start an advocacy group dedicated to educating lower-middle-class whites about their privileges, and target most of my advocacy at Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, and Wisconsin.

      • I hope you are not saying that anybody is actually doing it. Right? Just don’t give them any ideas. :-))

      1. I am not aware of any such effort, but I’m sure that the Republican Party would be willing to fund such an effort, and I’m equally sure that some clueless liberal would be happy to work on it.

      Wasn’t that Clinton’s strategy?

      1. It was a very effective strategy for electing Trump.

Though, in fairness, I don’t think it was the Clinton campaign per se that scolded about privilege, for the most part. It seems to be more of a Liberal Thinkpiece Writer Zeitgeist thing.

        1. These are people who would never have voted for hillary, gloating over her loss. I’d take their ‘analysis’ of what went wrong and their ideas about which way to go forward with a grain of salt.

  4. I’ve definitely been getting more informed about local politics. Two years ago I didn’t even know why my mayor was, now I know who he is, who’s running against him this year (and who I’ll vote for), who’s on city council, etc. I think one of your posts on the nation state is part of why I started to research (that and there was the election coming up), so thanks!

  5. Also, keep in mind Trump is deeply unpopular even in the ‘honeymoon’ stage of the presidency. Historically so. No president in 50 years has had worse approval ratings coming in. Which opens up all sorts of ways he can be politically neutralized.

If you can’t acknowledge this you might be enjoying your fear and panic a little too much.

    1. Yes, the Electoral Select is deeply unpopular despite losing the popular vote by a wide margin and a poll of people willing to answer a survey reflects that.😞

OT: How do people scrape contact info of off websites? I don’t have the least background in CS or programming and manually putting it in would take a long time, especially if you wanted a master list of state house and state Senate contact info for all 50 states. Hmm.🤔
