Stuck

I don’t know how to take Klara for walks any more. She obviously won’t stay lying in the pram or sitting in the stroller for any amount of time because she needs to be on the move. But she doesn’t walk yet. In my family nobody walks before 14 – 15 months of age. I can’t let her crawl on the ground because it’s wet and cold. So we are stuck in the house, and I’m not liking that.

  1. Will Klara nap in the stroller if you take her out just before her usual sleeping time? Or would she sit in the stroller and eat finger foods if you took her out about lunchtime? Are there any local parks where there are ducks in a pond that she could see them coming to eat food you throw for them?
Or do any local indoor soft play places have padded play areas just for babies? Are you friendly enough with any of the parents of kids at her nursery to ask them for ideas?

  2. My older one didn’t walk until about 16 months and I remember having the same problem. Although, being in warm and dry S. California, I could just let him crawl around on the ground some of the time – people sometimes gave me funny looks but I ignored them. One things we did that he loved was being carried in a back-pack carrier. Of course he was not moving around while in that, but he enjoyed being up high and going for walks that way. He gets a little jealous now that his sister is the one using it 😉 No way could I stand being stuck in the house – you have my sympathies!

  3. Some good suggestions above, I was going to suggest a back-pack carrier too. Most older babies enjoy them and have a great view of the world. You do need reasonably strong shoulders though!

But distractions while Klara is sitting in her stroller might work. Don’t be afraid to try different things, it would be a shame to make her become housebound too.
