In the past, surplus populations produced by modernization (and that’s what modernization always does, it creates surplus people) were exported to the colonies.
Today there are no more physical spaces where the unwanted people rejected by modernization can be dumped. So instead, they are exported into the virtual world of the Internet and the fantasy world of drug addiction.
Drugs and screens are today what Canada and Australia were in the 19th century.
Is Mars the next Australia? Or is the model reversed — the elite goes to the next location with the rest left here to die?

I thought God created prisons, jails and psychiatric institutions to “accommodate” the rejected and unwanted.

The problem with this is when they declare independence they take those that exile with them too….
Trump is not some kind of culmination, he’s the beginning of their independence movement.
If you’re gonna create surplus people you probably want to keep them from being able to vote…
